Hello

We are currently developing a vision to be a hub of missional outreach at Oakleigh Community Church to all ages.

In addition to the great work that is already happening through ministries such as Little Oaks and Coffee Run, our initial plan is to serve children and families in the care system, by becoming an approved contact centre, where children and birth parents can meet.

In addition, we are working on becoming a Home Education Hub, providing high quality, National Curriculum tutoring, with a Christian, Jesus-centred, ethos. In the lead up to launching, we aim to give a monthly update with regards to progress and prayer points.

January Update

Family HUB Update and Praise Points

We want to give thanks this month for all those who were involved in making the Christmas Fayre, Christmas film night and other Christmas events happen. We saw many families from Little Oaks and the local community come along many of whom said how welcomed they felt.

We also give thanks for all those who have been working behind the scenes on the Website, Promotional Material for the Education centre and in setting up the Home Education Facebook group. Promotional material for the Education centre has already begun to be distrubuted and the website will be up and running this month.

The application for the Contact centre continues to progress well. Claire and Isla are working on documents that will be submitted on the 22nd January where the next stage of the assessment and application will then begin.

Prayer Points

Pray for all those who will be volunteering at the Contact and Education centre and for the upcoming training that will be taking place over the next few months.

Please pray for the next step of the application process for the contact centre and the upcoming submission at the end of this month.

Finally, please continue to pray for conversations with parents concerning the Tuition Centre and for promising enquiries to be made. Please also continue to pray that God continues to guide the Home Education Advisory Team (HEAT) through the imminent next steps and also the plans for the next two to three months.

Practical Help

If you are interested in getting involved in the Education centre or Contact centre and would like to find out more about how you can get involved please speak to one of the family hub team.

December Update

Family HUB Update and Praise Points

We want to give thanks this month that the application to be a Contact Centre that was sent to the National Association of Children’s Contact Centres has been approved. This now means we can move onto the next stages where Isla and Clare are required to attend different training courses as well as pulling together various policies and continuing to work on the cabins and other rooms to make them as safe and accessible as they need to be. We also give thanks that we have been able to continue developing the Family HUB website and preparing images of what the Home Education Tuition Centre will finally look like. The website should be up and running at the beginning of December. We are also in the process of creating promotional material to be displayed and handed out at the Christmas Fayre.

Prayer Points

Now, that the application to become a Contact Centre has been approved, please continue to pray that Godly and supportive relationships are built during this process and especially for Isla and Clare as they navigate their way through the various courses and administration that is required for it to be viable.

Please pray that good conversations will be had with parents at the Christmas Fayre concerning the Tuition Centre and promising enquiries will be made. Please also continue to pray that God continues to guide the Home Education Advisory Team (HEAT) through the imminent next steps and also the plans for the next two to three months.

Finally, please continue to pray that people will catch the vision for the Christmas Fayre and work together to serve the families in our Community and spread the good news about Jesus.

Practical Help

A reminder that the Christmas Fayre comes under our Family Hub Banner and will follow the Sunday service on 15th December from 2.30 – 4.30pm. This has been a wonderful missional opportunity for the last 2 years to serve and bless families and to share the Good News about Jesus.

We still need help on the day as we want to provide a wonderful welcome to families in our community. Please see the Weekly Bulletin for ways in which help is still needed and how to let us know if you would like to be involved. We continue to need donations of brand new gifts in their original packing. Suggestions are children’s games and toys, toiletries, stationery, wine, biscuits, chocolates etc.

If you have any questions about the Family Hub feel free to chat to Judith, Claire S, Isla or Karen.

November Update

Praise Points

We are so thankful for the financial gifts that have been given which have enabled the decoration and resourcing of the rooms that will be used for the Contact Centre and the Education Hub. The outside area has been grassed over and new fences put up. This is a wonderful blessing to the families of Little Oaks toddler group and our kids and youth church ministries who can enjoy a safe and more comfortable spaces. Families who attend Little Oaks have commented on what a welcoming cared for environment Oakleigh is and how blessed they are by the hospitality shown to them.

Prayer Points

The application has been submitted, to become a Contact Centre, to the National Association of Children’s Contact Centres. Please pray that the process goes smoothly and that Godly and supportive relationships are built during this process.

Please pray that God shows clearly the next steps for the Education Hub as the Core team meets to pray and plan the way forward.

Please pray that people will catch the vision for the Christmas Fayre and work together to serve the families in our Community and spread the good news about Jesus.

October Update

Praise Points

We are so grateful to God and the amazing people at Oakleigh that we have hit our initial target of funds to start the Family Hub (before we even asked!). This has been a huge blessing and we are able to initially resource the education hub and contact centre, as well as bring the Hub and Family Room decoration up to the same standard as the rest of the church.

This will bless our OCC young people, Kids and Mini Church, our weekly toddler group as well as the families we hope to reach in the future. We have also been very blessed by having several members of our church congregation offer their day job skills to help provide an even better quality provision at the Family Hub, we now have a Christian counsellor who will be available to some of our vulnerable mums suffering from trauma, a mental health specialist who will help advise our pastoral team and several foster carers who can help discuss their own experiences, to help prepare those serving.

Prayer Points

That the application to the National Association of Children's Contact Centres (NACCC) goes smoothly and we work well with the assessment team. For blessed and Godly relationships to develop there.

Please continue to pray for the core team as they meet professionals and others in a wide range of settings building bridges between the church and community.

Practical Help

We will be re-painting the hub and the Family room on Thursday 17th of October and would love to steam clean the carpet in the Family Room, if anyone has a steam cleaner that they would either lend us or come and use for us. Also if you are available to help on that day during school hours please do drop one of the team a message, or email info@oakleighcommunitychurch.co.uk we would love the help!

We would love to be able to develop the outside space by the cabins, as many families who will be coming are not allowed to take their children to the park or off site so having a small multi use space where parents can be outdoors with their children would be a real blessing to them. It would also bless our Kids and Mini church groups,  our youth and toddlers. If you are able to donate towards this please do so online with the reference OCC FH.
